How to Take the Teacher Pledge

Congratulations! We are so excited that you have decided to take the Teacher Pledge. You have taken the first big step to a rewarding career and financial freedom. Here’s what you need to do next:

Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

There is no separate application for the Teacher Pledge — just fill out and submit the FAFSA.

Once your FAFSA has been completed and submitted (and, if you’re new to UW–Madison, after you’ve enrolled in classes) you will receive notification of your financial aid offers — including the Teacher Pledge.

Note: Teacher Pledge offers for the summer term are made separately from fall/spring offers.

Complete 3 Steps to Take the Teacher Pledge

  • Step 1: Accept and save your Teacher Pledge Student Agreement in the Student eForms tile in MyUW Student Center.
  • Step 2: Accept the loan in the Financial Aid tile in MyUW Student Center.
  • Step 3: Look for your promissory note from Heartland ECSI in your @wisc.edu email. Follow the email’s instructions to complete the process. The note will take several business days to process. Your Teacher Pledge funds will disburse when the note as been processed.

The Teacher Pledge program will check that you have completed all necessary steps. If you miss a step, you will be notified.

Now that you have completed the steps required to take the Teacher Pledge, check your Financial Account tile in MyUW Student Center to confirm your balance. If you have any questions about your balance, email the bursar’s office.

If you have any questions about the Teacher Pledge, please email me. Our schools, communities, and the School of Education thank you for your commitment to the children and families in Wisconsin.
